My poor mom has been getting the shaft in the gift department for the past 30 years. Her birthday, Mother's Day and wedding anniversary fall within two weeks of each other. When you add a husband who has an almost pathological aversion to shopping and children who are almost always broke, you're left with one gift for all three occasions. Poor mom.
Last year, I was all out of cash when her 50th birthday rolled around and felt just awful. If I could have, I would have ordered a gorgeous Food Network Challenge-type cake for an intimate party where all of her friends would've been in attendance. My gift to her would've been an original Mucha and a trip to Prague. But, alas, my college student/small business owner budget did not allow for extravagance. So instead, it was a much less desirable (but still very funny) custom made T-shirt from the T-Shirt Deli in Chicago.
This year, I thought ahead (breakthrough!), "I'll get her birthday present in advance. That way, I'll be able to get two other gifts and properly celebrate all occasions."
The lovely and talented Jennifer Morris gracefully agreed to make one of her mini masterpieces for my lovely and talented mother. When they arrived last week, I was in awe. They are even more amazing in person; photos only hint at the expert intricacies and detail that greeted my eyes when I opened her beautiful packaging. I am so pleased. Not to mention, she was an absolute pleasure to work with, and my mom loved her gift. Thank you, Jennifer!
